Campbell of Oxton is a small family run livestock haulage business based in the Scottish Borders village of Oxton (which lies about 25 miles south east of Edinburgh). Originally founded in 1926 by two brothers and known as J & G Campbell (after brothers - John & George), the principal activity was delivering coal to local customers using a steam lorry. Over the ensuing years, and under the stewardship of a number of different owners, the business grew and also expanded into providing transport services to cater for the needs of the local farming community – particularly for the movement of livestock.
In the late 1980’s, the business was acquired by present day owner, Geordie Dun - a former and very successful National Hunt jockey who bought the business as a retirement project. Originally from an equine and farming background, Geordie’s venture into livestock transport has proved to be very much a befitting career move!
With a fleet now comprising 7 trucks, the DAF XF Euro 6 (which arrived in March 2016) is the latest addition and (as would be expected) is also beautifully liveried in keeping with Campbell of Oxton’s distinctive red, white & blue colourscheme. The business operates throughout the UK and now focuses exclusively on the movement of livestock, particularly pigs - where Campbell of Oxton works closely with Scotlean Pigs, (a professional Co-operative Organisation which works with pig producing members throughout Scotland and England ).
