Established in 1951 by Conway Bailey, the business began with a handful of trucks dedicated to providing haulage services to Cornish producers - and in particular making daily deliveries of Fresh Cornish Farm produce to the London Markets. Now, more than 70 years later, Conway Bailey has grown to become one of the largest independent hauliers in the UK. Whilst still proudly working with the fresh Cornish producers, it also now serves customers throughout the UK and Europe, transporting fresh, dry and liquid bulk product and providing a complete end-to-end service.
Since 1985, the Company has been run by Mark Bailey, the son of founder, Conway Bailey. The modern fleet, which is now made up of DAFs, Scanias, and Volvos, is still run from the same yard in Scorrier, near Redruth, where the Head Office and base has expanded overtime to house the ever-growing operation. The Company has additional locations in Truro and also in Victoria, near Roche in mid-Cornwall with facilities that offer ambient, chilled, and frozen storage, as well as a picking service and space for over 5,000 pallets at any one time, stored, as required, at any temperature from ambient to frozen.
Perhaps best known for specialising in refrigerated transport of perishable goods on timed deliveries (and capable of running with temperatures anywhere between -25˚C to +20˚C), CBT actually operates an impressively diverse fleet. The offering includes flat-beds, curtainsiders, tankers and bulk tippers, not to mention, of course, a very large number of fridge trailers, thereby allowing the operation to meet a wide variety of its customers’ frequently changing needs. Deliveries undertaken range from small loads comprising a few pallets, through to long term contract commitments involving the delivery of multiple loads every day.
