DAF WITH FLAT FOR FREELANDS!Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are delighted to announce the release of a 1:50 scale DAF XG (6×2) tractor unit with 3 axle, extender flatbed trailer, customised in the distinctive and instantly recognisable livery of Aberdeen based operator Freeland Freight Service Ltd.The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Models as a certificated Limited Edition (110 pieces).Now in business for over 50 years, Freeland Freight Service, (or “Freelands” as it is more locally known), was established back in 1972 by Derek Freeland. Having served a mechanic’s apprenticeship in his Uncle’s transport company, Derek Freeland purchased a second-hand Commer tractor unit and focused his business efforts on securing and undertaking work for the new and developing oil exploration industry which was just starting up in Aberdeen. Early success saw business grow rapidly and within what seemed like no time at all, Derek found himself with a fleet in excess of 20 vehicles.Nowadays, Freelands operates around 45 commercial vehicles. The fleet comprises predominantly DAF trucks – amongst which are four, recently delivered, DAF XG 530 (6×2) units which are destined to undertake long-haul work across the UK. All four units are attractively presented in the long-established white, yellow and maroon corporate colourscheme, but these new DAF sport a revised version of Freeland Freight’s livery specially which has been designed to complement the looks of the new DAF XG cab. Whilst the majority of the fleet operates within Scotland, around a quarter of the trucks are utilised on long distance operations throughout the UK and a limited amount of work is also being undertaken in mainland Europe. In addition to flatbed trailers, Freelands run curtain trailers and low loaders, not to mention also operating one of the largest fleets of truck mounted cranes in the local area. This range of equipment enables a comprehensive and integrated business package to be offered, providing both transport and craneage services to customers mainly, but not exclusively, in the fast moving and time sensitive oil industry.Models, available from Search Impex are priced at £179 each, including UK delivery & VAT.
