Commissioned to celebrate Ferguson Transport’s 60th anniversary in 2019, the models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles as a certificated Limited Edition (175 pieces).
With its HQ in the village of Corpach in Lochaber (approximately four miles north of Fort William in the Scottish Highlands), Ferguson Transport & Shipping remains a family run business. Proud to be known as one of the largest independent logistics companies in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, the business also benefits from a number of strategically located Operation Centres throughout the rest of the UK.
Established in Argyll, in 1959, by the late Archie Ferguson, together with his wife Anne, the Company’s early work largely comprised the transportation of farm feeds and forestry products, topped up by an element of general haulage. In the late 1960’s, however, gale force winds swept across western Scotland, decimating large areas of forest and bringing commercial forestry work in Argyll, for the foreseeable future, to an abrupt end. As a result Ferguson Transport was compelled to look and move further afield for work, which resulted in a relocation of the business.
By the mid 1970’s Ferguson Transport had relocated to Spean Bridge in the Lochaber region, where it undertook work loading and unloading ships at the Corpach Basin (near Fort William) for the Wiggins Teape pulp and paper mill. Transport of the raw materials (roundwood and paper pulp) and deliveries of finished products, as far afield as Ireland, via Campbelltown, was also undertaken.
Continuing steady and solid growth over the ensuing years, together with strategic expansion of the services offered, necessitated a major investment in a purpose built HQ in Corpach, along with DVSA test centre and training facilities (built in 2009). Ferguson Transport has continued to experience further substantial growth – evidenced, not least, by the fact that it now operates 70+ trucks (predominantly Volvo) and more than 180 trailers, including curtains, tankers, flats and a selection of specialised trailers. Attractively presented in their distinctive red, yellow & black livery, Ferguson Transport’s trucks operate throughout the UK and will already be known to many truck enthusiasts and model collectors.
Now entering its 60th anniversary year, the business has evolved into a truly multi-faceted logistics operation and one of the first companies in Scotland to successfully apply and achieve DVSA ‘Earned Recognition’ status. Services include not only transport and intermodal freight services, but also shipping (it now owns six vessels used for moving cargo around the Highlands & Islands, as well as undertaking fish food distribution to fish farms), owning and operating its own port services, craneage, storage, warehousing and training.
Ferguson Transport & Shipping entered into a JV with Leiths Scotland Ltd in 2008 forming Kishorn Port Ltd (KPL). KPL own and operate one of the largest Dry Docks in Western Europe in Kishorn.
