McCURRY MODELS IN THE LIMELIGHT!

Derbyshire based promotional model trucks specialist, Search Impex, is pleased to announce the release of a Volvo FH Globetrotter (6×2) tractor unit with 3 axle, bulk tipping powder tanker trailer, customised in the classy livery of Northern Ireland based operator, John McCurry & Sons Ltd.The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles as a certificated Limited Edition (205 pieces).

Based in the attractive Causeway Coast village of Cushendall in Co. Antrim, John McCurry & Sons Ltd is a family run agricultural business supplying a wide range of products to the farming community. It all started more than 50 years ago, back in 1966, when John McCurry, with the purchase of a BMC tipper truck for £400, secured work moving stone from Broughshane to be used in the construction of the Ballymena motorway. When this work came to an end, John, together with his brother in law, Patsy McCormick, were asked if they would be able to undertake lime spreading work on local farmland. This in turn, lead to requests from other local farmers to have deliveries of lime to their farms. As a result, the pair found themselves regularly drawing truck loads of lime from the mill in Ballintoy and delivering throughout the north Antrim area. After a couple of years, Patsy decided to go in a different direction and went into the bread industry, but John continued with the lime business.

Over the ensuing years, John proceeded to grow the lime business but also expanded into other agricultural supplies, including feeds & feeders, gates & fencing, fertilisers and straw. Recognising that many of the products were seasonal, the business also went into haulage work – which proved to be a great strategic move for the business. Nowadays, the Company operates a fleet of 14 artics, (all but one of which are Volvo) and a mix of trailers, including bulk tipping powder tankers, bellied tankers, curtainsiders and bulk tippers. The Volvo FH (on which the model is to be based) was one of a flagship pair purchased for the Company’s 50th anniversary in 2016, together with the new bulk tipping powder tanker trailer. The smartly liveried trucks and trailers operate throughout Ireland and are also regularly over in England & Scotland – and so may already be a familiar sight to many collectors and truck enthusiasts.
