A Cool 20 Years for McConaghy!

Search Impex, are pleased to announce the release of a 1:50 scale Scania S580 Highline (6×2) tractor unit and 3 axle, refrigerated trailer (Thermo King), customised in the highly attractive and increasingly well-known livery of Northern Ireland based operator, McConaghy Refrigerated Distribution.

This is the third model to be produced by Search Impex for McConaghy and has been commissioned to mark the occasion of the operator’s 20th year in business. The model will sits well alongside the earlier releases (both now sold out) of two different Scania Topline models with refrigerated trailers. The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectables as a certificated Limited Edition.

The latest new Scania and fridge trailer to join the fleet has been beautifully liveried in McConaghy’s striking yellow, flame red & white colour scheme and is nicely finished off with a subtle 20th anniversary motif.

Based in Derrykeighan, near Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, McConaghy Refrigerated Distribution was founded in 1997, by Richard McConaghy, with the purchase of his first vehicle – a Volvo FL6-12 rigid fridge truck. Using this truck, McConaghy undertook local refrigerated distribution work throughout Northern Ireland. Since the early start up days, the business has grown steadily and has progressed into UK and all Ireland distribution. In 2013, the business entered second generation territory when Richard’s son, Gavin, joined the Company and he now drives throughout the UK & Ireland. Further second generation involvement came again in 2016 when Richard’s daughter, Lauren, also joined the business working on the operational side and undertaking, amongst other things, traffic desk duties and compliance administration.

An increasing workload has required more trucks and the Company has continued to invest in its fleet. The present day fleet of 16 trucks is a mix of Scania & Volvo and McConaghy Refrigerated Distribution trucks can be seen delivering throughout Ireland and also on the UK mainland making deliveries to and collections from RDC’s for distribution direct to stores in Ireland
