AILSA EDITION MARKS 50TH ANNIVERSARY FOR VOLVO TRUCKS UK

Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are delighted to announce the release of a 1:50 scale Volvo FH16 750 Globetrotter XL (6×2) with 3 axle, curtain trailer, customised in Volvo Trucks UK’s iconic “Ailsa Edition” livery.

Commissioned to celebrate Volvo Trucks 50th anniversary of operating in the UK, the “Ailsa Edition” model has been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles as a certificated Limited Edition (205 pieces).

It was back in 1967 that two Scottish businessmen (Jim McKelvie and Jim Keyden) established Ailsa Trucks – an organisation that, ultimately, was to lead to the founding of Volvo Trucks UK. Based in Barrhead, about 9 miles south west of Glasgow, Ailsa Trucks were responsible for the official introduction of the Volvo F86 to the UK market. The F86 (‘F’ standing for ‘Forward Control’) was a revolutionary model at that time and incorporated many advanced features, including a steel framed, tilting safety cab, a full airbrake system and a laminated windscreen – features which, these days, are taken as standard. Combined with short delivery times, good customer service and a 12 months parts and labour guarantee, Ailsa Trucks started to develop a dealer network and put training programmes in place – the combined result of which meant that the launch of the Volvo marque in the UK market got off to a flying start. Indeed, the first year of business finished with sales of 165 trucks!

As befits an anniversary celebrating 50 years of business in the UK, the real life showpiece “Ailsa Edition” Volvo has been embellished with a specially designed 50th anniversary “Ailsa Edition” logo and has been strictly limited to a production run of just 50 trucks. With a choice of gold on black, or black on gold livery, this special edition will undoubtedly be keenly sought after by many a truck operator. With an option of FH 4×2 or 6×2 units and with an interior that comes with a comprehensive range of home comforts, including microwave, television and fridge/freezer and full leather upholstery, this beauty will certainly be a flagship truck for any operator fortunate enough to secure one. And you may already have been lucky enough to have seen one in the flesh, because the “Ailsa Edition” Volvo took pride of place on the Volvo stand at many events on the truck show circuit earlier this year!
