Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the release of a 1:50 scale Scania Streamline Topline (6×2) tractor unit with 3 axle, curtain trailer, customised in the livery of Manchester based operator AKW Global Logistics.
The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles and are a certificated Limited Edition (205 pieces). Originally known as A K Worthington, the business was established in Manchester in 1981 by Tony Worthington and started life as a traditional haulier specialising in collecting and delivering for the freight forwarders situated in and around Manchester Docks. The company enjoyed steady growth in this area and in 1986 branched out to offer warehousing services as well as distribution. In 2004, as a means of creating synergies between the transport and warehousing operations, the AKW Group was formed. This resulted in the setting up, in 2006, of a dedicated warehousing division (AKW Global Warehousing) and since then, a contract packing operation has also been brought into the fold. These moves were seen as part of the strategy necessary to allow it to offer its customers a truly one stop shop solution. The capabilities of the Group were strengthened still further in 2014, when a merger took place between the AKW Group and Manchester based Global Logistics (UK) – a transport business which, very beneficially to the Group, came complete with an established subsidiary (GL Central) in Birmingham. This led to the formation of AKW Global Logistics – and the first AKW Global Logistics branded trucks began appearing on the roads within weeks of the merger. Nowadays, AKW Global Logistics runs a fleet of around 100 trucks (a mix of artics and rigids – almost exclusively Scania) and more than 100 curtain trailers, all customised in the Group’s smart, businesslike livery. With two bases in Manchester (including a newly acquired 12-acre site in Trafford Park), as well as a base in Birmingham, AKW Global Logistics serves companies and businesses throughout the UK & Ireland. Known predominantly for offering warehousing, distribution & supply chain management solutions, the Company also has specialist departments offering both air and sea freight services. Only a limited number of these models are on offer to collectors at a price of £135 each (including UK delivery & VAT). To check availability of this and other models, collectors can visit the Search Impex website at www.search-impex.co.uk or call on 01332 873555.
