Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the release of a 1:50 scale new Scania S450 Highline (6X2) with 3 axle, curtain trailer, customised in the distinctive livery of Scottish haulier D R Macleod.The model has been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles as a certificated Limited Edition (205 pieces) and follows on from the previous sell out release of the D R Macleod Volvo & fridge trailer.

Based in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, (almost 700 miles north of London), D R Macleod Ltd. provides a UK wide transport & distribution service. The Company has a high profile throughout the Highlands and islands. The business sparked into life in 1981 when founder – and present day Managing Director – Donald Macleod, (known to everyone as DR), purchased a Leyland Reiver truck in Glasgow and undertook his first job – a delivery to an agricultural supplies customer in Stornoway.

Steady expansion of the business through the 1980’s and early 1990’s saw the Company relocate from its original base in Stornoway to a base on the main pier in the town harbour where it operated for a number of years before moving to its current location in 1996. The site is conveniently located for access to the ferry terminal and comprises offices, a sizeable distribution warehouse and a large concrete surfaced yard for HGV’s. Incoming cargo is unloaded here and sorted for local deliveries. Goods for despatch to the mainland on the next available ferry are also sorted and loaded here.

In 2008 the Company completed the construction of a purpose built distribution facility in Lochmaddy, North Uist – again located close to the ferry terminal. This modern complex, with its large surfaced yard, acts as the hub for the Company’s operations in the Southern Isles.

In 2013, having outgrown its original Inverness base, the Company relocated to new and significantly larger premises across the road from the old depot in the Longman Industrial Estate. This new build distribution centre is centrally located in Inverness where loads for the Highlands & islands and further south are consolidated.

In Glasgow, the business currently operates from rented premises, although land has recently been purchased with a view to building a new distribution facility with excellent access to the M8 motorway.

D R Macleod has operated a variety of makes of truck over the years, including Volvo, Scania & DAF and on occasions, Leyland, Iveco, Foden, MAN & Mercedes. Today’s impressive fleet numbers some 55 trucks (majoring on a mix of Volvo, Scania & DAF) and 80 trailers – fridge, box van and curtain, through to flatbeds, tankers and step frame low loaders, not to mention a selection of about fifteen panel vans for smaller, more local deliveries. The variety of cargo carried is diverse and can range from multiple full loads to individual parcel consignments. These represent the full range of commodities requiring to be moved by road to the sizeable geographical region served.
