SCANIA S 580’s FOR JHP!

Derbyshire based promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are delighted to announce the release of a 1:50 scale Scania S 580 (6×2) tractor unit and 3 axle, refrigerated trailer, customised in the highly attractive 10th anniversary livery of Scottish haulier JHP Transport. The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles as a certificated Limited Edition (175 pieces).

Based in Rigside in rural south Lanarkshire and with good access to the nearby M74 motorway, JHP Transport was established in 2007 by former HGV driver Jim Hamilton Prentice. Located on the site of what, previously, was Townhead Farm, Jim started the Company with an initial investment in a Scania R480 Topline and curtain trailer and undertook the transportation of paper. Although relatively satisfactory, the workload was often unpredictable and irregular and so, within 6 months of starting, Jim began to look at other business opportunities in the transport sector. This led to a strategic rethink and the decision was made to get into fridge trailer work – this being based largely on the premise that the food market is an industry which never stops.

The change of business focus in the Company’s very early days has certainly paid off! This is clearly evidenced by the fact that, some ten years later, JHP Transport operates close on 25 trucks (mostly Scania, but with a sprinkling of other makes, including Volvo, Mercedes and DAF) and nine fridge trailers. (The imbalance in numbers between tractor units and trailers is simply down to the fact that JHP majors on subcontract work, providing haulage services to other customers). In addition to its fridge trailers, the Company recognises the need to retain a degree of diversity and so it has also invested in a tautliner and stepframe low loader trailer to enable it to offer a degree of flexibility in the general haulage market.

To commemorate its ten year milestone, JHP Transport purchased four new Scania S 580 units and specially commissioned two fridge trailers in 10th anniversary livery. The Scania units (boldly painted in JHP’s corporate red) are reported to be the second, third, fourth & fifth new Scanias to be registered in Scotland. (Rumours, of course, abound as to who purchased the first!). JHP Transport remains a family owned and run business and as a hardworking haulage company, the trucks are expected to work run 24/7 and 365 days per year. Operating throughout the UK and occasionally over to Europe, the anniversary trucks and trailers will make for a truly eye-catching sight as they go about collecting full and part loads and running them directly from collection to delivery points.
