Lunar Transport

1:50 scale Volvo FH4 Globetrotter (6×2) with 3 axle, refrigerated trailer, customised in the attractive livery of Scottish operator, Lunar Transport.

The model has been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles and is a certificated Limited Edition (155 pieces).

This is the second model to be produced in this operator’s crisp, clean cut livery – the first model having been a complete sell out.

Lunar Transport was established in 2001 as the transport arm of Lunar Freezing – an operation which provides a freezing and storage service to deep sea fish processors, including fish landed by its own fishing trawlers. With a quayside location in Peterhead – Europe’s biggest fish landing port – Lunar Transport operates 9 commercial vehicles, including 6 artics. The fleet (all Volvo trucks) caters for in-house UK work but also undertakes regular export work to France, Belgium, Holland, Germany & Denmark.

The Company is privately owned and the name “Lunar” has its roots in the fishing industry – the first fishing vessel purchased by the Company shortly after the end of the second World War being a trawler-cum-mine sweeper named “M/V Lunar Bow”. The original Lunar Bow was actually the official support vessel to HMS Belfast, part of the 18th Cruiser Squadron operating from the Royal Navy’s great anchorage at Scapa Flow off the north east coast of Scotland during the Second World War. Since purchasing the original Lunar Bow, the Company has kept and faithfully transferred the name onto successive replacement trawlers, so ensuring the name lives on. Today’s Lunar Bow, poignantly captured in a picture on the sides of one of Lunar Transport’s trailers, can be seen passing under Tower Bridge on its way to meet up with H M S Belfast (now a floating museum moored on the Thames) to make a courtesy visit in support of the Fishermen’s Mission charity. Nowadays, Lunar Fishing operates seven trawlers.

Models, available from Search Impex, are priced at £133 each (including UK delivery & VAT). For details of availability of this and other models, collectors can visit the Search Impex website at www.search-impex.co.uk or call on 01332 873555.
