50 YEARS ANNIVERSARY CROWN FOR STEPHEN SANDERSON TRANSPORT!

Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the release of a 1:50 scale Scania S770 High (6×2) tractor unit and curtain trailer, customised in the 50th anniversary livery of Leicestershire-based haulier, Stephen Sanderson Transport.

Established back in 1973 and using £40 of savings and a £200 loan from his grandfather, Mr George Lee, Stephen Sanderson set up the business with one transit pickup van and the aim of serving some of the haulage requirements of engineering companies around Leicestershire. Over the first couple of years, the business started to grow, and so additional vehicles, drivers and employees were taken on. Then, in 1975, a successful application resulted in the granting of an Operator’s licence and the purchase of two HGV’s – a move which saw the official formation of Stephen Sanderson Transport.

By 1986 the business had become well established, and the fleet had grown to 15 vehicles. Office premises and storage facilities were very much on the agenda and in 1988, the business changed its status to incorporated – and Stephen Sanderson Transport Ltd had arrived! Over the next 10 years or so, significant investment was made into bigger office premises and additional warehousing and storage facilities, and the business also introduced an international transport service. By the turn of the century, Stephen Sanderson Transport Ltd was running 40 vehicles and employing 70 staff and in 2001 it went on to become a shareholding member of Palletline plc – the UK’s leading palletised distribution network. This led to further growth and necessitated the continuing expansion of warehousing capacity. The success and on-going achievements of the business and its employees saw the steady winning of a series of Palletline member annual awards, and more recognition of the Company’s achievements came in 2018 when Stephen Sanderson Transport Ltd, won the much-coveted Motor Transport Haulier of the Year Award.

For almost a decade, the business has involved a second generation of the family – with Stephen’s sons, Chris and Ed, both becoming directors in 2014. Today’s operation remains very much a family-owned distribution and warehouse company operating from the heart of the UK Midlands. Serving a wide range of businesses and sectors across the UK and Europe, it currently operates a modern and diverse fleet of over 70 vehicles – predominantly Scania – and the very latest addition to the fleet is the Scania S770 High and new curtain trailer on which the 50th anniversary model is to be based.
