Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of a 1:50 scale Volvo FH500 Globetrotter 6x2, single wheel tag axle unit and 3 axle, tanker trailer with guillotine valve, customised in the livery of well-known Scottish operator Ferguson Transport (Spean Bridge) Ltd.
(Note: The models will be based on WSI’s existing GP liquid tanker trailer, but with the addition of a specially made guillotine valve component fitted to the rear dish end). Ferguson Transport is fully aware and accepts there will, inevitably, be differences in specification between the model and their actual specialised tanker trailer).
The models will be produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Models as a certificated Limited Edition.
With its HQ in the village of Corpach in Lochaber (approximately four miles north of Fort William in the Scottish Highlands), Ferguson Transport & Shipping remains a family run business. Proud to be known as one of the largest independent logistics companies in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, the business also benefits from a number of strategically located Operation Centres throughout the rest of the UK.
Established in Argyll, in 1959, by the late Archie Ferguson, together with his wife Anne, the Company’s early work largely comprised the transportation of farm feeds and forestry products, topped up by an element of general haulage. In the late 1960’s, however, gale force winds swept across western Scotland, decimating large areas of forest and bringing commercial forestry work in Argyll, for the foreseeable future, to an abrupt end. As a result Ferguson Transport was compelled to look and move further afield for work, which resulted in a relocation of the business.
By the mid 1970’s Ferguson Transport had relocated to Spean Bridge in the Lochaber region, where it undertook work loading and unloading ships at the Corpach Basin (near Fort William) for the Wiggins Teape pulp and paper mill. Transport of the raw materials (roundwood and paper pulp) and deliveries of finished products, as far afield as Ireland, via Campbeltown, was also undertaken.
Continuing steady and solid growth over the ensuing years, together with strategic expansion of the services offered, necessitated a major investment in a purpose built HQ in Corpach, along with DVSA test centre and training facilities (built in 2009). Ferguson Transport has continued to experience further substantial growth – evidenced, not least, by the fact that it now operates 50+ trucks (predominantly Volvo), 10 Terberg/Kalmar work trucks ) and more than 150 trailers, including curtains, tankers, flats and a selection of specialised trailers – of which the MOWI branded tanker is one such example. Attractively presented in their distinctive red, yellow & black livery, Ferguson Transport’s trucks operate throughout the UK and will already be known to many truck enthusiasts and model collectors.
Now in its 65th year, the business has evolved into a truly multi-faceted logistics operation and one of the first companies in Scotland to successfully apply and achieve DVSA ‘Earned Recognition’ status. Services include not only transport and intermodal freight services, but also shipping through its marine services, with large landing crafts, fast rescue vessel, crew transfer and works vessel used for moving cargo around the Highlands & Islands, as well as undertaking fish food distribution to fish farms, owning and operating its own port, offering services including craneage, storage, warehousing and training.
