Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of a 1:50 scale Volvo FH 540 Globetrotter XL (6x2) with small light weight mid-lift axle and 3 axle, bulk tipper trailer, customised in the well-known livery of Scottish operator James S. Hislop.
(Note: The models will be based on WSI’s existing bulk tipper tooling. James S Hislop is fully aware of this and accepts there will, inevitably, be some differences in specification between the model and the actual tipper).
The models will be produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Models as a certificated, Limited Edition.
James S. Hislop Haulage was originally based in the Scottish Borders town of Kelso and was established in 1988 by Jim Hislop. In 2015, having outgrown its original site, the business relocated to the nearby village of Swinton - a pretty village also in the Scottish Borders and which lies between Coldstream and Duns in Berwickshire. From this new 3-acre site, which also includes 15,000 sq ft of warehousing space, the Company runs its fleet of high profile, beautifully liveried trucks and trailers and is perfectly based to undertake the transportation of goods - both north into Scotland and south into England and beyond.
Now run by Jim Hislop’s son, Alan, the business operates around 25 trucks (a mix of Volvo, DAF, Scania & Mercedes) and has a variety of trailers - including bulk tippers (predominantly used for transporting agricultural produce and all fitted with on-board weighing system and having TASCC accreditation), curtain side & flatbed trailers for general haulage, as well as low loaders and step frames for machinery transport, abnormal loads and the transport of caravans. The Company also runs an escort vehicle service to accompany abnormal loads, has a fully equipped commercial vehicle workshop carrying out servicing & repairs and also a busy commercial vehicle body shop.
There are currently five Volvo units in the fleet, four of which are standard 6x2 units used for general haulage and one 6x2 with a light weight mid-lift axle which is assigned to bulk tipper work. As with all James S. Hislop trucks, the Volvos are beautifully turned out in this haulier’s instantly recognisable red & blue livery and as with every truck in the fleet, they each carry a name on the front of the cab - all prefixed with “Roxburgh” (this being a nod to the former historic Scottish county of Roxburghshire). In the case of the Volvo truck on which the model is to be based, let it be known that “Roxburgh Bandit” is now on the way!
