Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of a 1:50 scale Volvo FH16 750 Globetrotter XL 6x2 twin wheel tag axle and 3 axle, refrigerated trailer (Carrier), customised in the 25th anniversary livery of well-known Northern Ireland based operator, McConaghy Refrigerated Distribution.
This is the fifth model to be produced by Search Impex for McConaghy and it will certainly sit well alongside the earlier releases (all now sold out) of three different Scania Topline units and last year’s release of a Renault T unit - all complete with refrigerated trailers.
The models will be produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Models as a certificated Limited Edition.
The high spec Volvo FH16 was specially chosen as a flagship truck to mark McConaghy’s 25th anniversary in business and has again – as would only be expected – been beautifully liveried in the Company’s striking yellow, flame red & white colour scheme and embellished with classy 25th anniversary logos.
Based in Derrykeighan, near Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, McConaghy Refrigerated Distribution was founded in 1997, by Richard McConaghy, with the purchase of his first vehicle - a Volvo FL6-12 rigid fridge truck. Using this truck, McConaghy undertook local refrigerated distribution work throughout Northern Ireland. Since the early start up days, the business has grown steadily and has progressed into UK and all Ireland distribution. In 2013, the business entered second generation territory when Richard’s son, Gavin, joined the Company. Gavin drives throughout the UK & Ireland and has now become a Director in the business. Further second generation involvement came again in 2016 when Richard’s daughter, Lauren, also joined the business working on the operational side. Undertaking, amongst other things, traffic desk duties and compliance administration, Lauren has also now become a Director.
An increasing workload has required more trucks and the Company has continued to invest in its fleet. The present day fleet of around 26 trucks is a mix of Scania, Volvo and more recently Renault. McConaghy trucks can be seen delivering throughout Ireland and also on the UK mainland making deliveries to and collections from RDC’s for distribution direct to stores in Ireland. More recently, the Company has started to move into European work with, initially, a particular focus on Spain. Of course, hand-in-hand with temperature controlled distribution goes temperature controlled storage and McConaghy is also now busy extending its existing temperature controlled storage facilities in order to meet growing demand in this sector.
