G&J JACK HOOKS A DAF RIGID!
Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the release of a 1:50 scale DAF CF (6x2) Euro 6 rigid refrigerated truck with undermounted tail lift, customised in the livery of Scottish operator, G & J Jack Ltd.

For more than 100 years, the Jack family has been in the fishing industry and seafood has been running through the Jack family’s blood for generations. The origins of the business go back to when Granny Jack (known as Granny Bessie) would travel round the local farms from her home in St. Combs (a small fishing village near Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire) carrying a creel full of fish on her back. She would trade the fish for milk, eggs and chicken from the farms she visited.
As Granny got older, her son George took over and, together with his brother, he invested in a van to serve customers further afield and he also rented a yard in Fraserburgh. As the business grew, they bought their first lorry – and this was followed shortly afterwards by a second lorry which was used to transport fish to Scottish and English markets. Thereafter, the customer base grew steadily and they were able to build their own fish yard (which, incidentally, is right next door to where the present day business is now based). They employed around 18 staff and generated so much demand in East Kilbride that they were able to open a third fish shop.
The business soon moved into the third generation of the family and saw Jimmy & his two brothers take over the reins. They focused meticulously on exporting quality-controlled seafood all over Europe - and even as far as America. High standards and excellent customer service resulted in a significant boost to sales and so more trucks were purchased (increasing the fleet to five) and a business based in France (a key market) was also established with the help of G&J Jack’s French partners. Jacks were one of the first companies to handle whole prawns in Fraserburgh and with a growing demand for shellfish, they also went on to establish a shellfish factory in Campbeltown.
In 2000, the fourth generation entered the business and differences began to emerge between family members about the best way forward with regard to continuing with the high standards which Jimmy & his brothers had set throughout their time in the business. The outcome of these differences resulted in a new business, G&J Jack Seafoods Ltd., being established in January 2014. G&J Jack Seafoods (a subsidiary of G & J Jack Ltd), seeks to uphold the family traditions and values that have been with the business since the outset. Striving to give its customers the best fish at the best possible prices, it believes in buying only the very freshest of seafood, with quality the top priority. With a network of excellent buyers who purchase the fish and shellfish daily from the local markets, the business has recently opened a base in Italy and also an office in France.
The fifth generation of the Jack family has now also joined the business and is working through all departments of the business from the bottom up in order to learn all the aspects of the fish trade. This approach can surely only help ensure that the same business principles and values held by the Jack family continue well into the future.
And through the generations, G&J Jack has also opted to take a significant role in the control of the transport of its own seafood products, knowing that efficient haulage and timely distribution ensures unrivalled product freshness. The DAF CF rigid truck is the latest addition to a fleet of lorries which has become something of an iconic brand – borne out by the fact that they are regularly photographed as they travel throughout the UK & Europe and that scale models are popular with collectors!
