Based in the Scottish village of Muir of Ord (a small village near the western boundary of the Black Isle peninsula in the Highlands of Scotland and lying about 9 miles west of Inverness and 5 miles south of Dingwall), Stoddart Crane Hire is a family run business with over 30 years’ experience in the industry. The business was started by David Stoddart in 2004 who, as an experienced crane driver for many years, ventured out on his own with his first crane, a Grove TM870. Adopting a positive and the all-important ‘can do’ attitude, he set out to build a business providing professional and reliable crane services for the local area.
Hard work and determination saw the business grow steadily and successfully into today’s dynamic Company which boasts a fleet of modern cranes, vehicles and specialist equipment capable of serving the varied industries not only of the Highlands & Islands, but also throughout the UK. Its instantly recognisable yellow vehicles all carry the Stoddart name, reflecting its commitment to provide its customers with the highest levels of service, safety and expertise possible. Over the years, Stoddart Crane Hire has supported a huge range of projects throughout Scotland and has built a reputation for reliability, technical expertise and a superior standard of professionalism at every level.
Now involving David’s children, Ewan and Kerri, the business is firmly into the second generation of family ownership and has at its disposal one of the most modern fleets of specialist lifting equipment in Scotland. Continual investment in plant, personnel and emerging technologies has enabled the business to perform at an ever-higher level. Modernisation of the fleet has seen more than £3 million being invested over the last 2 years alone. In addition to cranes, the Company operates a fleet of specialised heavy haulage, support and escort vehicles enabling Stoddart Crane Hire to provide a seamless, comprehensive service to its clients, whatever the project.
The lifting equipment capability on offer ranges from 5 tonnes to 250 tonnes and projects are supported by a growing and highly competent team of operators, each of them skilled at negotiating the challenging terrain often faced across the Highlands & Islands of Scotland. The LTM 1090 crane on which the model is to be based is one of the most recent additions to the fleet and will doubtless be seen operating at various sites throughout Scotland over the coming months.
