1:50 scale Scania 143E 450 (8x4) tractor unit with Nooteboom 4-axle low loader trailer, customised in the livery of well-known Scottish operator Cadzow Heavy Haulage.

The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Models as a certificated Limited Edition (175 pieces).

The Cadzow Heavy Haulage roots actually go back to 1957 when James Macauley (Snr) purchased a 2 tonne Morris truck and set out with a vision of building a family business in public works, including earthmoving, demolition and the supply of construction materials.  Following the death of James (Snr) in the early 1970s, his son (Jim Jnr) had the daunting task of taking over the reins.  He opted to move away from the civil engineering and public works sector and made a decision to move purely into heavy haulage  -  so beginning, in 1973, what is now seen as today’s Cadzow Heavy Haulage.  Under Jim Macauley’s guidance, the Company which, incidentally, takes its name from “Cadzow” – a region of South Lanarkshire in Scotland, has gone on to become one of the UK’s best known and most experienced operators in the transportation of heavy and abnormal loads. Sadly, in 2016, Jim Macauley passed away but, with the on-going involvement of his wife and two daughters in the business, it still remains very much family owned and run.

Offering haulier services throughout the UK to a range of different industries, Cadzow Heavy Haulage can handle loads of up to 150 tonnes. Large items of machinery and plant for commercial businesses are moved using the haulier’s fleet of modern tractor units and a variety of modern trailers.  Reinvestment has always been a philosophy of the Macauley family, a policy resulting in a very modern, well maintained and well-presented fleet of units and trailers.

The Scania 143 (8x4) truck on which the model has been based was a state-of-the-art, impressive addition to the Cadzow fleet back in 1996. What’s not so widely known is that it was originally delivered as a factory built 6x4 unit.  Arriving along with three more brand new Scania trucks (two 6x2 tag axle units and another 6x4 unit) - Cadzow had earmarked this particular truck for something of a heavier future and so it was sent off to be converted to an 8x4 unit with the addition of a twin wheel Phoenix axle.  The newly converted Scania went on to earn its keep with Cadzow for many years until being officially retired from active work duties around 2006.  The Scania unit is still owned by the business and is now a cherished part of the Cadzow Collection.

In order to replicate its real life counterpart as accurately as possible, several new parts have been specially developed and produced for this model, including new mud wings (to enable twin wheels to be fitted on the second axle) and also a new tank and locker assembly for mounting behind the cab.

Models, available from Search Impex, are priced at £231 each (including UK delivery & VAT).
