"Grange Vettriano" - a 1:50 scale Scania R500 Normal (6x2) tractor unit with 3 axle, bulk tipping powder tanker trailer, customised in the distinctive and well-known livery of Scottish operator, John Mitchell Haulage & Warehousing.
The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Models as a certificated Limited Edition (155 pieces).
Based in Grangemouth on the banks of the Firth of Forth, John Mitchell Haulage & Warehousing was established by the late John Mitchell back in 1956. With interest in transport already awakened at an early age (John saw his Uncle sell off his transport business to British Road Services in 1954, following denationalisation), John very much liked the idea of setting up his own transport company and so purchased a second hand Albion. This was to prove a shrewd move because it successfully sowed the seeds of what has become today’s very substantial business – and one of the largest family owned road haulage companies in Scotland. The present day operation is currently headed up by John’s son, Iain - and the third generation of the family (Iain’s son and daughter) is also now on the cusp of entering the business.
The Company operates throughout the UK and specialises in bulk powder transport and general haulage, serving the transport needs of customers in a broad spectrum of industries.
A state-of-the-art transport base, including a new 80,000 square foot high bay pallet rack warehouse offering secure storage for a vast range of goods, as well as an on-site container store for up to 2000 shipping containers, can be found at its Earl’s Road headquarters. Over the years, John Mitchell Haulage and Warehousing have been awarded a number of industry accolades, including the prestigious Motor Transport, UK Haulier of the Year award in 2002 and Transport News’ Scottish haulier of the Year in 2016.
The business runs an impressive fleet numbering around 155 trucks (predominantly Scania and MAN, with some Mercedes) and 230 trailers (a mix of bulk powder tankers and curtainsiders, as well as skeletal trailers). All tractor units in John Mitchell’s fleet carry names prefixed with “Grange” as, in this particular case, “Grange Vettriano”.
The Scania unit on which the model has been based is a relatively recent addition to the fleet and is, as only to be expected, smartly turned out in the Company’s corporate livery – a design which, no doubt, will already be a familiar sight to many collectors and truck enthusiasts throughout the UK and possibly beyond.
Models available now from Search Impex are priced at £157 each (including UK delivery & VAT).
