“Alfie’s Pride” – 1:50 scale Scania S450 High (6x2) and curtain trailer, customised in the well-known livery of Scottish based operator Hayton Coulthard.

The models have been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Models as a certificated Limited Edition (205 pieces).

Established in 1916 in the village of Twynholm, South West Scotland, this haulage company is now run by the 4th generation of the Coulthard family.  The Company, founded by Peter Coulthard, was named after his oldest son, Hayton and his first vehicle was a motorbike and sidecar which was used to deliver newspapers around Galloway.  The next vehicle to join the “fleet” was a small lorry which was purchased to enable the collection of milk churns from local farms and deliver them to the dairy in Kirkcudbright.

Hayton, however, was not interested in haulage and went into farming instead.  Hayton’s younger brother, Jimmy, then took over the reins, expanding the business in the 1940s to include Dunmhor Transport, named after his two children, Duncan and Morag.  Dunmhor Transport was set up to safeguard against the loss of lorries. At the time, the War Office commandeered a percentage of lorries from haulage firms to help with the Second World War Effort.

Jimmy died in 1959 and Duncan, fourteen at the time, had to leave school to help his mother with the business. He eventually took over completely in 1967 and throughout the 1970s and 1980s, under the management of Duncan Senior, the company continued to thrive and grow.  On the retirement of Duncan Senior in 2000, Duncan Junior became the new (and present day) Managing Director.

Today’s business operates a modern fleet of trucks (a mix of Scania, Volvo & MAN) and around 150 trailers, (including curtainside, refrigerated, walking floor, flatbed and chipliner trailers).  Depots are located in Twynholm and Ecclefechan, with additional operating centres at Bathgate, Kilsyth, Auchinleck, Tebay, Auchterarder, Hexham and Barrow-in-Furness.

Hayton Coulthard (along with Pollock (Scotrans) and ARR Craib), is part of Devon based operator Gregory Distribution, a family owned business with a fleet of over 1,300 vehicles, 3,000 employees and a strong reputation for customer service gained over more than 100 years of trading.  The Hayton Coulthard fleet continues to carry its iconic brand – and the Scania and curtain trailer model release in this well-known and classy livery will ensure that another cherished Hayton Coulthard model can be added to many a model truck collection!

Models, available from Search Impex, are priced at £163 each (including UK delivery & VAT).
